In celebration of the Twelfth Night, Jackson’s Steakhouse will be offering special features for dinner service Friday, January 3 and Saturday, January 4 2025.
Twelfth Night marks the start of the Carnival season, which lasts through Mardi Gras Day. Called the Feast of the Epiphany on the liturgical calendar, the Twelfth Night marks the end of the Twelve Days of Christmas, and is said to be the day when the Three Wise Men (or Three Kings) brought their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh to the stable in Bethlehem.
Over the years, many cultures have considered this a time of feasting and merrymaking.
Modern American Twelfth Night and Carnival traditions shine most brightly in New Orleans. In the mid-twentieth century, friends gathered for weekly king cake parties. Whoever received the slice with the King, usually in the form of a miniature baby doll representing luck and prosperity, hosted the next event. Traditionally, this was a bean for the king and a pea for the queen.
In celebration of the beginning of the Carnival season, we will be featuring our standard dinner menu as well as the following special features for the celebration of Twelfth Night: Seafood gumbo, Miko’s king cake, and a special king cake cocktail.
