A.B.C. Beverage Tastings August – December 2022

Design

Atlas Oyster House is proud to present the next installment of Atlas Beverage Classes (A.B.C.). This semester we will be focusing on local breweries, wineries and distilleries, discovering what is going on in the beverage world right here in our backyard. In addition to the beverage tastings, we will feature small plates paired with each beverage, as prepared by Chef de Cuisine John Huggins.

A.B.C. will be held outside, on the Deck Bar, the first Thursday of the month (January through June) and will feature a local presenter discussing the highlighted beverages. Classes will consist of four tastings of beverages with four mini appetizers to complement each tasting. Classes will cover the basics as well as specific information regarding the history of the brewery/winery/distillery and their beers, wines, or spirits.

There are two classes every month, each an hour and a half long. The first class begins promptly at 5:00 p.m. with the second class beginning at 7:00 p.m. Class cost is $25 per person (plus tax and gratuity), per class, which gets each participant one tasting of each of the featured beverages. In addition, throughout the class, participants should be prepared for “pop quizzes,” where we will be giving away T-shirts, beer glassware, gift certificates and more. Seating is limited, reservations are required; be sure to make yours by emailing taylor@goodgrits.com or calling 850-287-0200. The featured themes for each class are as follows:

October 6th: Ghost Train Brewery (Birmingham, AL)

Ghost Train Brewing Co. has been serving the people of Birmingham delicious alcoholic beverages for six years now, with a little over five of those years spent at their current location on 3rd Avenue South just a short walk from Pepper Place. The tremendous growth seen by the brewery has resulted in exciting additions to their space over the years. A double-stacked shipping container transformed into one of the city’s coolest hangout spots, the addition of liquor production and menu items, and a massive outdoor stage are just a few examples – but Ghost Train has once again outgrown its current surroundings. As a result, the brewery will be expanding to a completely renovated version of the Old Car Heaven location perfectly designed to give Birminghamians the social and music venue combination they deserve.

November 3rd: Whiskey Around the World

  • Suntory Whiskey Toki paired with
  • Lot No. 40 Canadian Rye Whiskeypaired with
  • Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey paired with
  • Angel’s Envy Bourbon Whiskey paired with

December 1st: Funky Buddha (Oakland Park, FL)

Funky Buddha started from humble beginnings at a small brewpub in Boca Raton, built off passionate people and sketchy craigslist ads. We were tired of the standard beer offerings. So we took matters to our own brew house, whipping up unconventional-yet-exceptional ales and pushing the boundaries of social norms.
