“Whiskey & War Stories” Food and Spirit Event at the Fish House

Horse Soldier Bourbon Set to Host “Whiskey & War Stories” Event, at The Fish House in Pensacola, Florida

On Thursday, October 29, Horse Soldier Bourbon will ride across the Florida Panhandle, for a special evening of “Whiskey & War Stories.” The award-winning bourbon brand—which was founded by retired members of the U.S. Special Forces, who were the first to enter Afghanistan, following 9/11—will host this intimate food and spirit event, sharing various parts of their historic journey.

“From BDUs to Bourbon”

In the days following the attacks of 9/11, a detachment of 12 U.S. Green Berets entered Afghanistan on horseback, tasked with mounting an American response to Al Qaeda. At that point, U.S. troops had not trained on horseback since WWII, and the men from ODA 595 were facing a massive, heavily armed Al Qaeda presence in the region. The orders were clear, but the outlook was uncertain. The months that followed would prove to be an iconic chapter in U.S. military history.

As Al Qaeda was gradually driven back and defeated, the legend of the “Horse Soldiers” began to grow. Following their decorated service to our country, the members of ODA 595 eventually retired from the military, but later regrouped with a new vision and a new mission. Horse Soldier Bourbon was born.

“We decided to pursue the American dream we’d fought so hard to defend,” said Scott Neil, a retired Green Beret, and COO, of American Freedom Distillery. “We traveled around the world, from the rolling hills of Kentucky, to the rugged mountains of Afghanistan, and one lesson remained universally true, whether on Wall Street or dirt streets: whiskey don’t care.”

From BDU’s to Bourbon, the Horse Soldier brand has quickly garnered national traction. Their bottle is molded from steel recovered from Ground Zero. The emblem on the front is a rendering of the Horse Soldier statue (titled “America’s Response”) which stands alone at One World Trade, across from the 9/11 Museum. Horse Soldier Bourbon has been featured across top-tier outlets, including: Entrepreneur, Forbes, FOX Business, FOX News, Maxim, Newsmax, and others.

Their story has been told in books and a blockbuster Hollywood movie, but this is your chance to hear it from the men themselves. On Thursday, October 29 at 5:30 p.m. the Horse Soldiers will host “Whiskey & War Stories” at The Fish House, an intimate, closed door event, where they retell various parts of the journey. Obstacles faced, lessons learned, glasses raised.

Legendary Men. Legendary Spirits.
