Hurricane Classic

Design

I would be willing to bet that 99.9% of everyone out there who has even slightly indulged in imbibery has heard of the Hurricane … certainly, if you’ve ever partied in New Orleans, you are familiar with the rum-heavy cocktail that every other tourist has firmly in hand while marching up and down Bourbon Street. All of this concoction’s popularity stems from the world-renowned Pat O’Brien’s bar in the heart of the French Quarter, yet the overly sweet, super-fruity mixture that you get today hardly resembles the cocktail that was first served in the famous hurricane lamp-shaped glasses and given away to sailors. Lucky for all of us, General Manager Steve Ooms dug up the original recipe and it’s simple, balanced, and delicious! It’s also on the new spring/summer menu at Jackson’s, so stop by the restaurant any time over the next few months and treat yourself.

Ingredients:

2 oz. Atlantico ‘Private Cask’ Rum
1 oz. passion fruit syrup
1 oz. fresh-squeezed citrus (equal parts lemon and lime juices)

Instructions:

Shake all ingredients, strain into rocks glass over ice, and garnish with a cherry and an orange slice.
