A.B.C. Beverage Tastings – January through June 2015

Atlas Oyster House is proud to present our next installment of Atlas Beverage Classes (A.B.C.). This semester we will be focusing on handcrafted beers as well as featured spirit brands and our newest addition — cocktails with Josh Goldman, our very own beverage director. In addition to the beverage tasting, we will be featuring small plates paired with each featured beverage, as prepared by Fish House Chef Billy Ballou.

 

The classes will be held outside on the first or second Thursday of each month on the Deck Bar (weather permitting) from January through June and will feature a presenter discussing the highlighted beverages. Classes will consist of four tastings of beverages with four mini appetizers to complement each tasting. Classes will cover the basics as well as specific information regarding the history of the featured brewery/distillery and their beers or spirits.

 

There is one class every month, each an hour long. The class begins promptly at 6:00 p.m. Class cost is $20 per person (plus tax and gratuity) per class, which gets each participant one tasting of each of the featured beverages. In addition, throughout the class, participants should be prepared for “pop quizzes,” where we will be giving away T-shirts, beer glassware, gift certificates and more.

 

January 8: Grayton Brewery

  • 1890 Founder’s Ale paired with garlic- & Dijon-roasted lamb lollipops
  • Pale Ale paired with boneless buffalo wings
  • White Dunes paired with a creamy White Dunes mousse

 

February 5: Aviator Brewing Company

Featured menu:

  • Wide Open Red paired with thai chicken skewers
  • Devils Tramping Ground Tripel paired with shrimp margherita pizza
  • HogWild IPA paired with cambozola cheese plate
  • MadBeach American Wheat paired with orange cake

March 5: Botanical Gins from Around the World

Featured menu:

  • G’vine (France) paired with seared blackened-tuna skewer
  • Hendrick’s (Scotland) paired with Florida orange-glazed tacos
  • Damrak (Amsterdam) paired with Gruyere cheese plate
  • Ungava (Canada) paired with a citrus Danish

 

April 2: A Lesson in Liqueurs

Featured menu:

  • St. Germain (France) paired with goat cheese & fig crostini
  • MamaJuana (Dominican Republic) paired with stuffed roasted portobellos
  • Ancho Reyes (Mexico) paired with West Indies crab salad
  • Drambuie (Scotland) paired with an apple dumpling with maple syrup

 

 

May 7: Margaritas – Cinco de Mayo

Featured menu:

  • Mango Habanero ‘Rita paired with tortilla chips & homemade guacamole
  • Smoky Chipotle ‘Rita paired with pancetta crisps
  • Santa Rosa Island ‘Rita paired with Spanish grilled cheese
  • The “Perfect Margarita” paired with key lime pie

 

June 11: Domestic Spirits (part 1 – American Whiskies)

Featured menu:

  • Clyde May’s (Kentucky/Alabama/Florida) paired with mac ’n’ cheese bites
  • Stranahan’s (Colorado) paired with wood-fired vegetable skewers
  • High West Bourye (Utah) paired with ginger-crusted spinach artichoke bites
  • Widow Jane (New York) paired with vanilla-spiced poached pears over vanilla ice cream
